Closure of the bike path between Mescherin and Gartz (Oder) starting July 20, 2026
Starting from July 20, 2026, the popular cycle path section between Mescherin and Gartz (Oder) in the Lower Oder Valley National Park will be completely closed due to extensive renovation work. This affects the approximately 3.8-kilometer-long section through the Gartzer Schrey, which is part of the supra-regional Oder-Neisse Cycle Route and the Berlin–Stettin cycle route.
Why is the cycle path being closed?
The existing cycle path shows significant damage and is undergoing a fundamental renewal. The aim of the construction measure is to increase traffic safety and improve the quality of this important tourist connection in the long term. The renovation is part of a joint regional infrastructure project.
Period of closure
Construction work will begin on August 1, 2026, with tree pruning work being carried out beforehand. According to current information, the section is expected to remain closed until the first quarter of 2027.
Detour for cyclists
During the construction period, it will not be possible to pass through the closed area. A signposted detour will be established. Cyclists are asked to follow the local signage and allow sufficient time for the detour.
Note for visitors
The section between Mescherin and Gartz is one of the most scenic routes in the Lower Oder Valley National Park. Despite the restrictions, the other cycling and hiking trails in the region will generally remain accessible. However, visitors should adjust their tour planning accordingly.
We ask for your understanding regarding the necessary construction work and look forward to being able to offer you a significantly improved cycle path once the renovation is complete. Information on possible changes and the detour route will be updated regularly.
